Why You Should Never Transport Your Dog in a Wire Frame Kennel

We’ve all likely seen someone do this at some point while on a road trip, but doing so puts your dog’s life at risk

Maybe you’ve been driving down the highway and have seen this: a dog in a metal cage kennel in the back of a car or truck. Not only is this incredibly dangerous, it’s irresponsible. As a team, we’ve seen this, too, and that’s why we strive to create the best product to protect your dog.

But why is it irresponsible? Because metal cage kennels are meant for home!

Most of us are lucky to have a dog that warms up to its kennel and relaxes once in it. They don’t chew on the bars, destroy the bedding inside, or, even, destroy the floor of the kennel itself. That’s why oftentimes when we get our new puppy, we run out to a big box pet store and buy a relatively cheap but viable option for the bedroom, living room, etc., to leave them in when we leave the house or work on training.

This is the only place these kennels should be used, though.

In my house, we implement both a wire cage kennel and a D283 Large G3, though the G3 is mainly our dog’s travel kennel. This is because, objectively, wire cage kennels are not suitable for vehicle accidents. They break easy, snapping into sharp tendrils that can do serious damage (or even kill) your dog.

In our minds, there’s no middle ground. To protect your dog in the case of an accident, you need a tough, rugged kennel that locks and is impervious to cracking, crushing, or breaking. While many options exist on the market, we believe our products top the list. Our rotomolded kennels, from the Original Kennebec to the Hero, offer exquisite protection in the cargo hold of your SUV, the bed of your truck, or in your living room.

Our locking paddle latch doors give you the peace of mind that no one will steal your dog, and we provide customers with an extra layer of protection in the form of Dakota Guard™ – an FDA and EPA-approved additive that is included in small quantities during a product’s production. This addition protects your pet’s health and safety from the invisible world, proven highly effective against MRSA, Salmonella, Listeria, E. coli, staphylococcus, many ‘gram-positive’ and ‘gram-negative’ organisms, and dozens of other common dangerous organisms.

Finally, our products are meant to survive the entire life of your dog (and for many other dogs to come). And while only available for the G3 Medium Frame kennel, our Forever Kennel Insert allows you to provide your puppy with the needed space as it grows. We plan on expanding this line soon to include inserts that fit some of our other models, too.
