What is your specialty?
Bird hunting(waterfowl and upland); Competitor in hunt tests and field trials
Tell us more about what you do.
Just semi-retired my older Boykin Spaniel, Cooper. I have a 1 year old Boykin Traveller, this will be his first hunting season, so we are still working on our routine together. I've been around bird hunting and Boykins my whole life and one thing every one knows, is that they all have their personalities. Cooper was a focused retrieving machine and had a calm demeanor. Traveller is 100mph constantly, so I've had to tailor training to him.
I just switched jobs so that I no longer have to travel for work which has allowed me to really dial into training in the off season. Our routine is up at 0400 take Cooper for a short run, drop him off and pick up Traveller for a longer and faster run. We will then do a few shorter and easier retrieves before I leave for work. When I get home from work, they get to do some water work in the backyard.
What gets you pumped up every day about what you do?
I think I get pumped every day mostly because of the excitement from the dogs. Between their excitement and knowing that we are one day closer to bird season, I get fired up. My dad and I are really the only ones that hunt in the family and due to that, we are extremely close.
What goals have you not accomplished?
I did not run Cooper as much in hunt tests and field trials as I wanted(I was right out of college). Now that I have the ability to, my goal is to get Traveller titled in HRC and BSS.
What keeps you up at night in pursuit of your goals?
How can I get more time in the field and ensure I'm taking advantage of every opportunity.
What do you love most about the Dakota 283 products?
The one thing I love the most is that Dakota truly cares for the well-being of our 4 legged friends, but yet also know that a lot of us hunters are on a budget. You get the most bang for your buck and will also know that your hunting buddy is safe.
